The lake stretches out before me, half yet dark shadows reflecting the hillside edging down to the water but hiding the colors the sun, now low in the sky, will reveal later, and the other half of the lake is still and as blue as the sky looking down on it. It’s the stillness of…Read more Tiny House Lessons
Tiny House
A friend of ours had built a couple of tiny houses and like a piece of dark chocolate, I couldn’t get those tiny houses out of my mind. We had been, well I had been, taking the slow approach to down-sizing. All of sudden I had this epiphany, surely living in a tiny house would help me figure out just exactly what I really needed to live and be comfortable.
It had to be a God thing how all that worked out because within weeks of my call to the builder, there we were, unloading our Jeep Cherokee into an 8 by 24 (or so) foot tiny house.
There was room for, or we made room for our computers and you can read here what some of that adventure looked like.
We were seven!
At the table, but then we did not eat at the table. It was so beautiful that we loaded up our plates and found places in the half circle of chairs near the lake’s edge in the shade of a great willow. As I planed the luncheon, I tried to think of all the possibilities,…Read more We were seven!
A Butterfly Blessing Written September 18, 2017
A loss took us away from the tiny house, and finally we are headed back down the rocky, shrouded by over-hanging tree branches, dirt road. As the ride grows bumpier, my heart beats faster, almost there, almost there, almost home to our tiny house on the lake. I could see the corner coming, the one…Read more A Butterfly Blessing Written September 18, 2017
Let’s Have a Party – Tiny House Style!
Weeks ago, as I packed for Tiny House life, I knew there would be neither room for my red and yellow party dishes for 16 or even seating for 16. Unless of course, it was a picnic, and the table service then would come from my picnic carry-all of red disposable plates, plastic flatware and…Read more Let’s Have a Party – Tiny House Style!
Perspective, it’s all about perspective!
A week ago, I was carting boxes and bags up the steps and down the steps, leaning over and reaching under all kinds of things, despite the awareness that the days of doing so had passed me by. By Tuesday, day after move-in day, my back was reminding me of my stupidity. And by Wednesday,…Read more Perspective, it’s all about perspective!
Withdrawal !
I’m not sure if this is a tiny house thing, or this tiny house thing, the one located at the end of the road and surrounded by beauty and quiet (note the end of the road), or the revelation of an addiction. But I do miss people! And communicating with them so simply, at least…Read more Withdrawal !
So, it looks like this!!
Welcome to my living and dining rooms; it's not all in this picture, but you get the idea. I brought pillows from home; see the most specialist on the left? The quilted one? Our Beth made that for her dad many years ago. Above this space is the first of two, each with two mattresses.…Read more So, it looks like this!!
Never in a Tiny House, I Couldn’t!
That’s what I heard, following our conversation about living in a tiny house. It was followed up with something like “There’s not enough space for the both of us. I’d have no place to get away.” Honestly, my first thought was “That makes me so sad. You're practically a newly-wed, and we’ve been married fifty…Read more Never in a Tiny House, I Couldn’t!
Shoes, I love shoes, but…
Yesterday, we bought under-the-bed bins for the tiny house. I am so thankful this tiny house actually has room for a regular bed! Anyway, it has a bed, but no dresser, thus the bins. And we each have two. I transferred our clothes from the suitcases, and I think two a piece will do it,…Read more Shoes, I love shoes, but…
You still have to eat!
You have to eat, whether you live in an ordinary house or a remarkable house, otherwise known here as a tiny house. So you start thinking about how big can I cook in my little kitchen, and that requires lots of thoughts about the pots and pans and conveniences you put in your boxes. I…Read more You still have to eat!
