When you are writing memoirs, your job is to recreate dialogue, not create it. Sometimes, that means you cannot remember exactly what you said. In that situation, you can recreate it, getting as close as you can to what actually was said and what and how your character would have said it.
A memoir is more than an autobiography or record of what you did or what happened to you over the course of your life. An autobiography is a broad look at your life. Think of a theme as “What this book is about,” or “What holds these stories together.
I just don’t think we should read this book and go from its pages unchanged.
